Today's adventure takes you off the beaten path, far away from the usual tourist spots around Siem Reap. Drive through small villages and picturesque countryside to reach the secluded temple of Beng Mealea. This serene temple complex, adorned with moss and enveloped in shade, offers a tranquil escape from the busy crowds at the main Angkor temples. After exploring this expansive site, continue to Kompong Phluk, where you will board a boat to see Cambodian stilt houses, explore the flooded forest, and behold the vast expanse of Tonle Sap Lake. Return to your hotel and enjoy an evening at your leisure.

Please note: The boat trip to Kompong Phluk is available from September to March during high water levels. It is not available from early April to late August. An alternative option is to take a boat trip from Chong Khneas.

You will start your day with a morning flight to Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Upon arrival, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel. Situated at the confluence of the Mekong and Tonle Sap Rivers, Phnom Penh was once known as one of the most beautiful cities in the Orient. Despite its turbulent history, it has managed to retain its colonial charm.

Take a guided tour to the Toul Sleng Museum of Genocide, formerly known as the Tuol Svay Prey High School. During the Khmer Rouge regime, this school was transformed into Security Prison 21, or S-21, serving as an interrogation and torture facility. Preserved to reflect its haunting history, the prison now houses photographs and exhibits that depict the thousands of victims who passed through its doors, with only seven fortunate survivors.

Today, begin your exploration with a visit to the Royal Palace, the official residence of King Norodom Sihamoni, and the nearby Silver Pagoda, also known as the Pagoda of the Emerald Buddha. Marvel at the exquisite architecture and immerse yourself in the beauty of these iconic landmarks. Next, visit the National Museum, where a comprehensive collection of Khmer art deepens your understanding of Cambodia's rich heritage.

To gain profound insight into Cambodia's recent history, proceed to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, located 15km outside Phnom Penh. Choeung Ek is among thousands of sites where the Khmer Rouge committed genocide during the late 1970s. Visible mass graves and exhumed pits remain, with scattered remains of victims. This site may be distressing, but it offers valuable insight into Cambodia's past.
